Safety Tips for Traveling with Baby on Board

Let’s face it.  Traveling with your baby can be challenging .  Those endearing little angels need an awing amount of stuff and sometimes you can get so bogged down with carrying bags and pushing the stroller at the same time that you forget about your baby’s safety. The trouble with that is that when you’re on the go and away from your baby-proofed baby furniture there are lots of things your active baby can get into that can cause harm.  This is why it’s important to put a baby-safety plan in motion before you leave for your trip.   Below you’ll find helpful safety tips on how to keep your sweet pea safe and secure whether you travel across town or across the ocean. You’ll learn key baby gear and baby furniture that you’ll need to bring along to keep your precious little one safe at all times.

Baby-Safe Gear

Safe Stroller
: If you plan to take frequent trips with your baby then you’ll want to consider getting a top rate travel system. This would be a stroller with the kit and caboodle including: cushiony shoulder straps, rain cover, mosquito net, carry cot, harness, canopy, shopping bag or storage bin and tiptop comfy seat.  Make sure that your stroller meets US safety standards with tip resistant frame and locking wheels.

Comfy Car Seat: You’ll also want to make sure your baby has an extra comfy car seat, so that travel time is easier.  For convenience, get a car seat with cup holder, so your baby always has a bottle close by when thirsty.

Hip Bouncer Seat: To keep baby entertained and out of trouble, it’s also great to get a bouncer seat that comes with hanging toys, music and bounce mechanism, so that your wee one is happy in the hotel room or at grandma’s and has his own fun and safe place to sit.

Fully Packed Diaper Bag: Make sure to take items in your diaper bag that can help keep your baby safe.   This would include things like a medical kit with thermometer and fever reducer along with nose aspirator.  It also comes in handy to take extra diapers and wipes because you don’t want your baby getting a rash when on vacation.  That’s never fun.  Also, take diaper rash balm just incase.  Consider packing an extra pair of clothes in the handy bag, incase you’re out and your baby has an accident and always take a bottle with formula so your baby never goes hungry when on the go.

Safety Gate: If traveling to someone’s home, I’d highly recommend getting a safety gate that you can move from room to room to keep baby in only the baby-safe zones.

Baby Monitor: Sometimes, when visiting friends or family, parents can get distracted when their baby takes a nap.  So why not get a baby monitor to place on the table near you as you socialize, so if your baby wakes up you hear his cries.

Sleep Safety

It’s imperative  that your baby get a good  night sleep on the trip if you want to sleep well  during your travels  .  You’ll also sleep better if your baby is snoozing in a safe place.  That’s why a portable crib otherwise know as a pack and play is a must-have item for taking on any overnight trip.  This type of baby furniture will be used  again and again  and can be used when on the go and also in your home.  If you get a crib that folds down, it’s easy to transport to any destination then pop back in place to create a safe sleep space or play space for your little sweetie.

Final Baby Travel Safety Tips

Just remember, when you’re on the go with your baby, always be aware of where he is and what he’s doing and also aware of the people and animals around him.  This way, your baby is sure to stay safe even in unfamiliar and non baby-proofed environments.

How To Baby Proof Your Home

by Olive Cross
There are so many things in the household that can be very hazardous to babies and the problem is that parents and guardians alike always neglect these things.

Baby proofing the home is not something that should be ignored or put off until the baby arrives. If anything, the home should be made baby proof even as early as a month before the arrival of the baby as many have died this way.

The best place to begin with making the home safer for your baby would be with the electrical outlets as this will not cost too much or take too much time. All of them need to be covered and the plugs always kept in their off position to avoid any electrocuting of the baby.

One of the most common accidents among babies comes from bumping into sharp corners on the furniture. You should take care to have these cushioned. You may think that it is common sense but it has to be mentioned that all the sharp items around the house must be place well out of reach under lock and key.

When it comes to the time when the baby can crawl then even more care is needed. Things like the hanging cords from electrical appliances and curtain holders should be gotten rid of or placed safely.

Since we cannot get rid of the rugs and mats we have around the house as much as we know that they have a tendency to slip, we have to make it safer. The best option is to buy non-slip pads to place under the mats.

Speaking of falling, anything that can trip your baby and cause them to fall should be taken out of their way. This includes cords and folds in the carpets that their feet can get caught on.

Install the appropriate safety features that will keep your baby from being able to open windows. Place stickers or decals on glass doors that will alert the young ones that there is glass in front of them and not just a doorway.

Cordless Phones Health Risks : BABIES are being put at risk of cancer by hi-tech cot monitors which emit deadly radiation, it is claimed. Parents will be horrified to learn that slow-pulsing microwaves blasted out by modern digital equipment may cause leukaemia, say scientists. Lab tests have also linked the radiation to potentially fatal brain tumours, breast cancer, headaches and disturbed behaviour patterns in kids. Consumer group Powerwatch has urged parents to ditch digital (DECT) monitors. Boss Alasdair Philips said: “We don’t recommend they are used. Do not put a wireless transmitter in your child’s bedroom and irradiate them unnecessarily.” Emissions, even if the monitor is not in use, can reportedly reach six volts per metre-TWICE as strong as those found within 100 metres of mobile phone masts. That’s a similar amount given off by digital cordless phones, as we revealed this month. Baby monitoring mats-which check a tot’s temperature and breathing-are also a concern because it is claimed they can emit 120 TIMES the safe level of 0.05 volts per metre. Digital products produce the radiation-but are popular because they provide clearer sound than old analogue monitors. Expert Dr David Dowson said: “Until more research has been done, I would advise every parent not to use them.” Maldives, Male City of Randwick, Australia Eugene, Oregon San Marino, San Marino Madison, Wisconsin Western Sahara, El www.emfnews.org
