Infant Care Archives

This is the scenario: You are living far from relatives and soon to have a child. You are not able to find childcare, and because of work obligations can not move to be closer to family. If distant relative offer to care for new infant, would you take it? Besides the 6wks of maternity time you’d have to bond, what’s the minimum time would you spend with baby to bond before leaving in care of family? Is it possible to reestablish bond if you are not able to reunite until, lets say, a year to 18 mos? Or is that first year of the baby’s life going to be permanently bonded with the family who raised him/her? Yes, my responsibility. The advice I’ve been given is that it would be better than letting total strangers in the daycare system spend the majority of time with him/her while I’ at work. Both ideas suck to me.

How can I make infant care “brainless”?

I’ll be returning to work when my baby is 6 weeks old and leaving him/her (not born, want to be surprised) in the care of daddy. I need ideas on how to make baby care as "brainless" or smooth as possible? What "gadgets" should I get him?
