Designing your Newborn`s Nursery

Thinking about designing a nursery for your newborn baby can be both exciting and nerve racking at the same time.

Perhaps one of the most and first important considerations you need to be aware of is safety. It won’t be long before your newborn is rolling around, reaching for things and even crawling around. If possible move out any unrelated furniture or bits and pieces before your new arrival and get socket covers for any electrical sockets and consider any other potential hazards such as long curtains or trailing wires.

The next consideration is what furniture or other equipment you may need to purchase such as cots, changing tables and storage. Even if you opt for a moses basket or crib these are only suitable for a short time and a cot will be needed or you might want to opt for a cot bed, as these can be changed into a toddler bed, maybe a more practical option. You will need a changing area, this could be a changing table, suitable up to the point your baby starts to roll over, or you may prefer a changing mat on the floor, which ever you opt for make sure the area you use has plenty of space for you to access as well as for keeping all your nappy changing accessories. Storage is another issue you will need drawers for vests, sleepsuits and baby clothes. You may also need storage for baby toys and other items. If you have space a chair to sit when nursing or feeding your little one, either a comfy chair.

There are plenty of different options when it comes to decorating your nursery, if you know whether you are having a little boy or girl you may choose to decorate in what many would consider to be traditional colours of blue or pink. Alternatively you may prefer to go for a more neutral colour theme, for example if you prefer to avoid gender stereotypes or are planning extra additions to your family. Instead you may want to go for a neutral cream, a warm yellow or a calming green. You may also want to give your nursery a theme popular neutral themes include such things such as
animals either farm or jungle animals or go for a circus theme. If you want a boy`s theme you could go for cars or planes or a more girl friendly theme you could opt for a fairy or princess theme.

There are plenty of things to consider when you are planning a nursery for your newborn, it is important that once you have covered all the safety and practical implications that you have a bit of fun and create something enjoyable but you might also want to think about the long term prospects and make sure that furniture such as childrens beds and decor will be suitable for a few years to come.
